what’s funniest about the pacific rim scientists is like. when newt geiszler says he’s a scientist he means an old-timey 1910s entomologist wearing khaki shorts and a comically oversized pair of binoculars traipsing through the jungle capturing endangered species of butterfly and murmuring “egads!! fascinating…..” and scribbling it in his journal. when hermann gottlieb is being a scientist it’s literally the fucking manhattan project. tortured chainsmoking physicist. pawn of a war. repressed homosexual all his life. gets executed for being a communist. And they have to do each other’s peer review

i love most technology catastrophe hypotheticals (Roko's Basilisk, Gray Goo, etc) because dorks who talk about how science and logic are cold and absolute wet their little jeans in their reddit threads about how we need to work on preventing them from happening because they're an existential threat to humanity, while the people who actually wrote the articles these hypotheticals are from are like "by the way, we definitely don't have anything even close to the technology we would need to create something like this, and even if we did we would have absolutely no incentive to do so in the first place."

there is something to be said about how white cis stem boys cannot fathom an existential threat to humanity coming in the form of anything but a Star Trek episode synopsis that was rejected for being a little boring.

Y'all ever think about how much modern propoganda is 100% dependent on you accepting “family” as this thing to be put on an untouchable pedestal? Like, obviously to some degree abusers are gonna cry foul when their victims take ownership of their lives and remove themselves from the picture but holy shit the degree to which kids not talking to their abusive parents anymore is being treated like an epidemic, that it’s somehow newsworthy on a repeat basis, it’s a literal panic from those in power and the reason is that people aren’t falling for it when their bullshit is framed as being part of a family.

The dragon fight at the end of Tears of the Kingdom isn’t all that cinematic or complex but there’s just something indescribably badass about it. Ganondorf gives up his lifelong goal and sacrifices his mind and body in a last-ditch effort to destroy one man. Thousands of years prior, Zelda made the same sacrifice in the hope that Link might stand a chance at winning this fight. Now, with nothing left of her Hylian mind or intentions, the Light Dragon instinctively shows up to help Link in his hour of need.
